New options for Booklet Labels

We have already spoken on many occasions on our blog about the advantages of multi-page labels that allow us to incorporate additional information on the product.

The Booklet  label is a self-adhesive and foldable label with a double layer of material that offers a surface area that is 3 times greater in comparison to the conventional one-layer label.
New communication solutions and options!:  The label offers a solution to labelling products with problems like the lack of space to give information, illegible texts, descriptions in different languages or that include promotional texts.

Advantages and Other Uses:

.Optimisation of label space. Less space given to the label on a product (it is concentrated and even has more information in just one element and in a lower sized area), which allows us to keep the product attractive and increase sales possibilities (multilingual labels).

. Visual impact… awaken the consumer’s curiosity
Promotions on transparent packaging:  The inner face of the base label can be used as a promotional element including codes, information, images etc.. that the consumer will only discover after using the product.

Options and finishes:
. Base Label: Print on white or transparent FILM and up to 7 different colours can be printed.
. Superior Label: Print on white FILM and up to 5 colours.

In addition to the already mentioned advantages, is an ideal option for labelling applications on products such as food and drink, cosmetics, cleaning, industrial products, electronics etc.

Waterproof Labels

In the summer we fancy cool things to fight the heat. Very often, the labels on some products, like drinks, are affected due to exposure to water or extremely cold conditions

The result? A “soaked” label, that deteriorates the product’s original image.

Therefore, the solution is to use self-adhesive papers that are water resistant. These are materials that are specially designed to survive in optimal conditions in water and at low temperatures to ensure the label stays intact.

In addition to very high adhesion, this type of label keeps its base colour, preventing the label paper from turning grey when the product is immersed in water.

This is a more than recommendable option for wines, cavas, beers and, in general, any type of drink that wants to boast a quality label that does not wrinkle, does not slide off and does not go dark under water.

IPE Eco-awareness: Our commitment to the Environment

At IPE, Innovaciones Para Etiquetajes S.L., we continue working in different actions whose objective is to minimise the impact on the environment.

The latest of these actions has been the important investment we have recently made in our production building where we have substituted the lighting we had to date for new lighting with LED’s.

LED’s, thanks to their reduced size, offer greater capacity to generate light, in addition to other advantages:

1).-Greater Energy Efficiency. According to the data we have, LED’s consume between 80-90% less energy. This means two things:

a).-Greater savings in our electricity invoice
b).- An energy saving that is equivalent to not having to sacrifice the life of 780 trees*in one year!.
*Real calculation based on the lighting change carried out in our installations.

2).-Less air conditioning consumption: Summer is coming, and this year promises not to be so hot (at least not in the IPE installations) the reason? as opposed to traditional bulbs, LED’s do not give off heat so, in some ways, this fact influences on the atmosphere temperature in our building.

3).-More light during more time: The average life of an LED lamp is 45.000 hours compared to 2.000 with a standard bulb. Moreover, they require less maintenance, so we just keep adding advantages.

4).- The main reason for the change: They are ecological
Traditional bulbs contain different toxic products whilst LED’s comply with the European RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Standard, which establishes restrictions in the use of certain dangerous substances in products for electric and electronic equipment.. and moreover, they are recyclable!

At IPE INNOVACIONES PARA ETIQUETAJES, S.L, we believe that the conservation and improvement of the environment is, in addition to being a priority, also the best guarantee for our future.

That’s why we continue investing in actions like this, that give shape and meaning to our IPE Eco-awareness programme, a programme through which we hope to make our workers, suppliers and clients more aware and more involved through actions that contribute to sustainable development.

Article: Basic considerations to take into account when developing a new product label

After the effort involved in starting up a new product, then comes the effort of deciding what the image of this product is going to be like in the market, a key decision upon which good part of its sales success depends.

Given the importance of the label for the sales possibilities of a re-vamped or new product, we have summarised some fundamental concepts when developing a label; advice that is fruit of the experience gained in works carried out alongside our clients and their marketing departments or marketing and graphic design agencies.

1).-Who am I? Apply the Elevator Pitch technique to your product:
If you only have 20 seconds, how would you present it? what do you want to highlight most?, is it clear who it is targeted at?, what is it’s use?, what makes it different from the rest?.. it is essential that the key product information is visible and quickly understandable.

2).- How do I dress?:
Yes, we haven’t made a mistake in the title... designing a label is "dressing the product".
Just in the same way we adapt our clothes depending on the circumstances, the same should happen with the product.

It may well be the case that there are already graphic elements (images,  typographies, etc..) that form part of the brand’s corporate image and it is in our interest to keep them, but it is also important to consider the product’s own independence, more so in the case where the manufacturer has a wide range of products. Will I dress the same for a kid’s party as when I practice sport? The same happens with products.

For example, if we are looking at a product for youngsters we should think; are we interested in getting the children’s’ attention or are we interested in getting their parents’ attention? and what if the product is for children but also consumed by sports people, as happens with some juices or concentrated fruits? In this case we evaluate what will be the “final clothing” apt for our target, whether defined or for various.

The general appearance of the product through the label image should help to attract the public for what it is created for, and this should be reflected in the colours, images, typography and also in the label’s final finish.

A clear example about the subject of finishes: If the product is going to be submerged in water at any point, we should consider a waterproof label.

3).- If brief is good, twice as good
. Communicate the benefits and uses of the product
. Comply with the standards corresponding to labelling
. Inform about the product’s composition

.....all on a relatively limited space like a label. In order not to saturate the consumer with information and end up with a label full of text, it is important to synthesise the information to be included to the utmost.

If, given the product’s characteristics or those of the target market, it is impossible to leave text out, then we should consider using one of the multi-page labels or a peel off label as the main or secondary label. That is why it is important to know the options in materials and finishes so as to establish the label’s design in one way or another.

4).- Choosing a good professional and a multidisciplinary team to develop the label

The choice of a good professional is the key for the label to meet its objectives from the design and communication point of view. Once this professional has been selected, it is essential to work in a team.

Our experience tells us that if you work in a team (product manufacturer, director of marketing, external agency or graphic designer and supplier of labelling solutions) the result will be much closer to being a success. The gathering together of know-how and the interchange of ideas will mean that the label will end up fulfilling all of its requirements.

5).- Printing and Materials:
Technologies, materials, finishes are the tools to achieve the final result, but there are multiple combinations! how can we know which is right for our label?

Let’s go back to the previous point: Teamwork

To choose the final finish for the label we will need to have the technical assistance given by the label manufacturer.

For this very reason, at IPE we believe and defend our work methodology called “Laboratory of ideas”, based on just that, teamwork, and aimed at offering the latest developments in our sector, materials, inks, printing processes, etc.. with the purpose of developing new products as well as customised projects.
